Fendi’s Star Collaboration & Gucci’s Menswear Feat

Fendi’s Peekaboo Collaboration

Italian luxury house Fendi is teaming up with a group of female British fashion icons to customize Fendi’s classic ‘peekaboo’ bags. The project which coincides with the opening of the new Fendi flagship store on New Bond Street in London, features 10 famous collaborators including Cara Delevingne, Jerry Hall, Tracey Emin, Georgia-May Jagger, etc, with only three of each design to be produced; one for the Fendi archive, one for the designer, with the last to be auctioned to the public with the proceeds to be donated to charity.

Gucci’s Five Day Feat

With the earlier than expected departure of creative director Frida Giannini Italian luxury brand Gucci designed and produced their Milan menswear runway show from scratch in an incredible five days. The press team issued a statement calling the redesign of the collection from scratch ’a new chapter’. The tailored, androgynous collection was designed by a team of young designers, headed by Gucci’s head accessories designer Alessandro Michele, with Gucci stating that a formal announcement of Frida Giannini's successor would be made in due course during the year.

Australian Fashion Influx

The Australian fashion retail market, which has in the past been dominated by national players, is facing an influx of global brands which seems set to shake up the Australian high street industry. Zara, H&M Gap, TopShop, Hollister, Miss Selfridge, Sephora and Michael Kors have already setup in the Australian market over the last 12 months, with rumors of the arrival of Marks and Spencer and Uniqlo in the coming months. Analysts predict the continuing globalization of the Australian market will only accelerate despite high rent and wage costs, with the influx forcing local Australian retailers to reassess pricing in the face of the increased competition.
