The Olsen Twins Launches Jewelry Line, Coach Opens in China and More

Another weekly briefing on fashion, entertainment and lifestyle from the desks of the Fashion One team.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, who began their label The Row 8 years ago, have opened their first flagship on Melrose Place in Los Angeles. The pair initially famous for their roles as twins on iconic American family sitcom ‘Full House’ became fashion icons in their teens, with a loose bohemian style that was simultaneously layered and sexy - a personal style that then translated to the aesthetics of their now highly successful fashion house. The 38,000 square foot building, previously the home of singer Neil Diamond, will feature the brand's full product line of womenswear and accessories alongside a careful selection of work by local furniture creative’s JF Chen, Galerie Half and Thomas Hayes Gallery, as well as vintage jewelry and objects.

As China continues to develop its economy and expand its middle class, it is also playing an increasingly important role in global fashion retail. Responding to the opportunity presented by the emergent Chinese consumer, New York-based luxury fashion company Coach Inc. has announced plans to open 30 news stores in China by the end of June 2014. Coach has stated these stores will be situated by cities with a high population density to ensure profitability for the bold expansion into the market.

Meanwhile, John Galliano has been appointed the new creative director of Russia-based cosmetics company L'Etoile, marking his first move back into the fashion industry since his very public meltdown in which he was filmed using anti-Semitic language in a Paris café.
