What’s Haute: The Best and Worst Dressed at the 71st Venice International Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival is one of the most glamorous events on the Hollywood calendar. The 71st Venice International FIlm Festival was no exception, with a parade of Hollywood glamour descending upon the Italian city. In this edition, Fashion One investigates the fashion faux pas and triumphs of the Venice Film Festival.

At the opening of the Festival was the premiere of Birdman where Julie Gayet stunned in a floor-length pink new-prom style dress by Elie Saab Couture from the Spring/Summer 2014 season. 25-year-old Emma Stone, one of the stars of Birdman, turned heads in an elegant, emerald green tulle gown with a cinched waist and plunging neckline by Valentino Couture. Charlotte Gainsbourg and Uma Thurman, the stars of Lars Von Trier’s newest transgressive masterpiece Nymphomaniac fittingly channeled darker, but no less glamorous appearances. One of the standout fashion hits was the sultry Charlotte Gainsbourg who wore an edgy Louis Vuitton one-sleeved leather minidress. Uma Thurman’s grey and black dress channelled a retro appearance, with a full skirt and narrow waist leading to a constricted embroidered collar. Alexandra Daddario who was in Venice to promote her film Burying the Ex wore a sheer, magenta floral design by Reem Acra, while her co-star Ashley Greene cut a dramatic figure in a floor-length gown by Antonio Berardi for Fall 2014.

Margot Sikabonyi, attending the Hungry Hearts opening, failed to impress with her 1960’s inspired zigzag patterned minidress, while Elena Sofia Ricci’s new age/hippie appearance looked more appropriate for joining a cult then stalking the red carpet.
