Band of Outsiders & Just Cavalli Lawsuits: Fashion Frontline Season 3 Episode 68

Tiffany Shultz returns with another roundup of events in the ever changing world of fashion and entertainment.

New York Fashion Week is looming, but one label which will not be making an appearance is the L.A. brand famed for its twisted Americana classics, Band of Outsiders, who have cancelled their involvement for the coming season. Scott Sternberg, designer of Band of Outsiders, has in the past criticized the temporal and creatively exhausting nature of seasonal runway shows, instead deciding to focus his energy on the opening of the first Band of Outsiders flagship store, which is set to open in Manhattan on September 7, the date which had previously been set for the brand’s abandoned fashion week presentation. Sternberg announced that in lieu of a runway shows, images will be distributed to the press and a showroom for the new collection is planned inside the store after the grand opening.

Three California-based graffiti artists, Jason 'Revok' Williams, Victor 'Reyes' Chapa, and Jeffrey 'Steel' Rubin, have filed a lawsuit against Milan-based fashion house Roberto Cavalli. The three claim that the Just Cavalli label has infringed their copyright on a work produced in San Francisco's Mission district back in 2012. The artists have asked for damages to be awarded but Cavalli has not backed down, saying he will dispute the case in court.

Italian luxury shoe company Salvatore Ferragamo announced that their first-half net profit was down six percent compared to the previous year. But it was not all dire news for the house, as revenue rose on gains in all regions. The label also said it expects growth to continue for the rest of the year based on the trends seen in the first six months of 2014.
