Hottest Knitwear Trends for Autumn Winter 2014/15

Colder days are coming, and what better way to wrap up warm than with all of the woolen designs shown across the European fashion weeks by the likes of Missoni, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney? Thicker wool and big, comfortable, oversized sweaters are making a comeback, as well as tighter cardigans and wool dresses. The styling of the dresses is short and loose, feminine and even delicate with the addition of collars, meticulous weaving and added embroidery.

“I wear a lot of knitwear; it’s a big part of my everyday life. What we wanted to do with the collection is be honest about that and also bring it in a new way—to just layer it on each other and have this idea that you were really being taken care of by the knitwear that you are wearing,” Stella McCartney says of her collection.

Comfort is key, but so are quality and artisan techniques. Danielle Sherman of the Edun brand says, “A lot of the pieces are tunics. We also have texture weaving, inspired by Malagasy weaving, which is native to Madagascar. So a lot of the scarves that you saw were hand-woven, as well as some other pieces in the collection.”

Wool is everywhere this season, from overcoats to dresses, scarves to pantsuits, and cardigans to hats.
