Hector and the Search for Happiness Movie Premiere London

Simon Pegg and Rosamund Pike star in feel-good film Hector and the Search for Happiness, and both were on hand to promote the film at the world premiere, held at Leicester Square’s Empire Cinema. Other cast members include Toni Collette, Stellan Skarsgård, Jean Reno, and Christopher Plummer.

“I think that you can’t just be happy. I think happiness is not something you can maintain 100 percent of the time, and if you did, you’d be exhausted. Happiness is a byproduct of an ongoing process, which is life. It’s something that happens after you’re unhappy. And you have to be scared and you have to be abandoned, you have to understand all those things. Misery, you have to know in order to really understand what happiness is. Otherwise, you’re just comfortable; otherwise, you’re just satisfied, and that’s not happiness, really,” says Pegg of the main theme of the movie. Rosamund Pike, who is set to make a big impact with her upcoming role in Gone Girl, shared her thoughts on the matter. “We’re living in the golden age of narcissism. Kids are being brought up to have very high expectations, which they expect to be met. The important thing is that no one can be happy all of the time, and it’s futile to even try, because happiness is only powerful in contradiction to the other emotions that life throws up.”
