Marc by Marc Jacobs Folds But Designers Start New Label

Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley joined the Marc by Marc Jacobs design team back in May 2013, but with the recent news of the subsidiary folding the designers’ next moves remained a mystery. The designer duo have finally announced their next step: they’ll be starting Hillier Bartley, a womenswear luxury label of read-to-wear, bags, and accessories.

"Hillier Bartley is a very personal project, which Katie and I have been working on for years," said Bartley in her statement on the new brand. "We have also looked at the women we admire, what we would want to wear and the inspirations that have been close to us for ages. Its ultimate heroine lies somewhere between Ian McCulloch and Katharine Hepburn. It's about a woman our age, indie by heart, rakish and irreverent by nature, who is maturing into refinement and naturalness."

Hillier has been reported to be staying on at Marc Jacobs while Bartley’s role at the company has not been disclosed as of yet.

According to WWD, Hillier Bartley will be available in August at select international retailers.
