12 Days of Valentine’s: Date Looks for Men

Even if you are taking the woman you’ve been seeing for years out for Valentine’s Day, you want to dress to impress. Nothing says ‘I love you’ better than saying ‘I love myself’ with your outfit. Before you splurge on your girl for dinner, buy yourself an outfit that will make you look and feel like you’re a million bucks. Whether your date is formal or casual, we’ve got you covered.

The formal date look should say ‘I’m serious’, but not businessman serious. Try a plaid coat to show that you’re out of the flannel phase, but still fashionable and on point. The shirt should be a button up with a collar, but to avoid looking stuffy, don’t go with the traditional white. Whichever color you choose, match it with a slightly darker shade of pants. Think like you are wearing a suit: you’d never wear a blue jacket with a red shirt with black pants. A tie to match the candlelit dinner is an obvious must. The belt and shoes must always match in a man’s wardrobe. Don’t neglect details like socks in an outfit like this. If the socks are black or white, you’ll look like you don’t care about detail and everyone knows that the most sophisticated men are concerned with details rather than broad topics. Last, but not least, are the shades. Sure, it’s probably night time, but the only thing more stupid than wearing sunglasses at night is waking up the next morning hungover without any sunglasses.

The casual Valentine’s Day outfit should make you look cool and relaxed. 70’s style is all the rage, so put on a turtleneck. The pants should be slacks to keep it slightly serious with a good crease ironed down the front. Get a hat to match the slacks and choose either silver or gold to go with your two tone color scheme. Some dressy Doc Martens are just the right amount of casual on a date. As before, the belt must match the shoes and the watch. Don’t forget a pair of sunglasses (preferably ones that match the watch and belt) to keep the look calm and collected. Now all you need to do is lean back, relax, and sweep your date of their feet.
